What a great weekend of Premier League football there is ahead and it kicks off with Chelsea v Leicester on Saturday lunchtime and rounds off with Liverpool v Manchester United on Monday night. Sandwiched in between all of that is the high profile fixture of Manchester City v Everton as well from the Etihad which is a 3pm kick off on Saturday. This is a game of high importance and high interest after City had their immaculate start to the season snapped just before the international break by Spurs.
After winning their opening six games of the new season, Manchester City came undone at White Hart Lane in a 2-0 loss against Tottenham. The Citizens were hassled by the Lilywhites and couldn’t get the ball down and play like they wanted to do. Other teams are clearly going to try and adapt what Spurs did against them to try and get lucky against the Citizens. Next on the list to have a go at the Champions elect is Everton, but the form is with the Citizens in this one.
Manchester city have gone unbeaten in their last six games against the Toffees in the top flight and across those six games they have shipped just the four goals in that period. Indeed, the Citizens have only shipped the one goal in their last four against Everton in the top flight. Of course, City’s 100% home record in the league does stand still and they are unbeaten in their last five at home against the Toffees in the top flight. But with five goals shipped in their last two games in all competitions, will they be able to hold off a positive Everton outfit?
Everton have produced a fine start to the season as well and won’t lie down lightly in this one. They were on a four match winning streak, but they have just seen their form dip with a D1 L1 record in their last two games. But they will have seen the City defence giving up goals lately and they will be hoping that Ronmel Lukaku continues his scoring form. After going eleven games without a goal, Lukaku has five in his last four. Can they do a “Tottenham” and take down City as well?
